Dear Legislator,

 

I realize that the Texas Legislature doesn’t meet again until January 2013, but I wanted to take the time to send you this letter supporting the push to allow slot machines at Texas racetracks and recognized Indian reservations. Poll after poll overwhelmingly show that Texans across all lines of party, gender and age want the chance to vote on this issue.

 

Balancing our state’s budget over the next several years is going to be challenging, despite the massive cuts made in healthcare and education and the creative accounting employed to get through the last session.

 

Texans like me would rather you look for new sources of non-personal tax revenue than cut any deeper into the services the people of our state rely on.  

 

We think it is outrageous that the Texas Legislature allows $2.5 billion in Texas dollars to flood over our borders into casinos in our neighboring states EVERY YEAR.  This is money that could largely be staying in the state and taxed in order to help fund important State needs.
