Take Action AAO-HNS Members: IPAB Repeal Legislation Introduced in 115th Congress!
Contact your federal lawmakers today to urge co-sponsorship of legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board!
Legislation (H.R. 849/S. 260) to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) was recently reintroduced in the 115th Congress by Rep. Phil Roe, MD (R-TN) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). Created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the IPAB would have broad authority over Medicare payment policy, placing critical decisions in the hands of a government entity with virtually no Congressional oversight. The IPAB will negatively affect timely access to quality healthcare for our nation’s senior citizens and the disabled, as cuts to Medicare payments could make it more difficult to see Medicare patients or undermine the financial viability of physicians who care for large numbers of Medicare patients.

Contact your federal lawmakers to urge co-sponsorship of H.R. 849/S.260!

To call your legislator, contact the Capitol Switchboard at 1-202-224-3121. Once you are connected to your legislator’s office, tell them you are a constituent and leave your name, phone number, and address, along with the following message, “As an otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon (or ENT physician) and a constituent, I strongly urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 849/S. 260, the “Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act of 2017,” legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). It’s important to physicians and seniors that Congress retain its rightful authority over Medicare payment policy.”

While I recognize the need to reduce the federal budget deficit and control the growth of healthcare spending, the IPAB is simply the wrong solution for addressing these challenges. Over 650 stakeholder organizations representing seniors, veterans, consumers, patients, healthcare providers, and business, as well as a bi-partisan group of Members of Congress have called for repeal of the IPAB. I urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 849!

If you or your staff has any questions, please contact me or the AAO-HNS Legislative Advocacy team at legfederal@entnet.org.
