On Feb. 10, Reps. David Wu, D-Ore-1st, Jim Gerlach, R-Pa.-6th, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, D-Fla.-20th, and Todd Platts, R-Pa.-19th, re-introduced the first-ever comprehensive psoriasis legislation-the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Research, Cure, and Care Act of 2009 (H.R. 930) in the United States House of Representatives. With this groundbreaking legislation, we, the psoriasis community, finally have the chance to put into law some of the steps that will bring us closer to a cure.
This important bill calls upon the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to continue and expand their work related to psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. In addition, the bill would convene a federal summit on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and call for an Institute of Medicine report to evaluate and make recommendations on access to care for people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
