Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) Needs YOUR Help!

October 2017.  We need your help to encourage the Governor and General Assembly members to support and increas the Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG.)

During the months of October and November, Governor McAuliffe will be meeting with budget staff to finalize priorities for the biennium budget he will introduce in mid-December.   Governor McAuliffe will make final budget decisions at the end of November.  It is critical that Governor McAuliffe and members of the General Assembly hear from TAG recipients, parents and alumni NOW.  We need to show Governor McAuliffe and members of the General Assembly how vital TAG funding is to our students, families, colleges and communities.  If TAG is important to you, please send an email as quickly as possible to Governor McAuliffe and members of the General Assembly to ask that they do everything possible to show their support for students at Virginia private colleges by increasing TAG funding in the biennium budget.

It is vital that your voice, and the voice of all Virginia private college supporters, is heard by the Governor and state legislators. Follow the instructions below to send an email.  Thank you for participating in our TAG campaign!

Instructions

1. Compose your message below.

2. Type your mailing address.  Your address will then be matched with the correct political district.

3. Your email will be sent simultaneously to Governor McAuliffe and your hometown state senator and delegate.

4. Please fill in the "affiliation" field with the name of the college where you (or your child) are enrolled or attended.  If you are affiliated with multiple private colleges, please list all affiliations.  This helps CICV track by college the number of emails sent.

5. In the "title" field, please indicate if you are a student, parent, alum or private college supporter.

Talking Points

• Introduce yourself.  Students should mention where they attend college, major, and future career plans.  Parents should provide some general information about themselves, along with the college, major, and future career plans of their children attending a Virginia private college.  Alumni should mention their alma mater and current career information.

• Thank them for their support of TAG. The current TAG award is $3,300 for undergraduate students and $1,650 for graduate students in health profession programs.

• VERY IMPORTANT:  Strongly urge the Governor and General Assembly to make TAG a priority by increasing TAG funding in the budget.  Virginia’s private colleges strongly encourage the Governor to increase funding to the TAG award.

• Briefly explain why TAG is important to you and your family and the importance of TAG in helping you (or your child) attend college.
