Hard working student pharmacists with an eye for advocacy should apply today to compete for the annual NACDS RxIMPACT "U" Advocacy Award before February 1, 2013!
This exciting NACDS RxIMPACT recognition program celebrates student pharmacist advocates and supportive campuses who are making a positive impact on the pharmacy profession by effectively communicating personal stories and policy details to influence legislative outcomes. Advocacy can take the form of letter writing campaigns, public displays of support for legislation, and meeting with legislators and staff. It can encompass better preparing students for Legislative Days, hosting training sessions, compiling briefing packets or talking points, or encouraging participation at town hall meetings. Successful advocacy programs offer a collaborative and multi-faceted approach.
Each accredited U.S. College or School of Pharmacy may submit one application for the NACDS RxIMPACT “U” Advocacy Award. Each submission is required to have a designated student pharmacist team leader, as well as a faculty or pharmacist advisor. The activity must have been completed within the 2012 calendar year.
Judges will be asked to score submissions based on the following criteria:(1) Creativity and Originality; (2) Multi-faceted Approach, including both federal and state legislative issues; (3) Planning and Execution together with participation from local pharmacists and other patient advocates ;(4) Sustainability of Advocacy Efforts; and (5) Follow-up Actions including media promotion and coverage.
Each application will be judged using the criteria listed above. The highest scoring submission will receive complimentary travel expenses for up to two individuals from the winning team to attend the NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill where students will meet with legislators, learn how to become stronger advocates for the profession, get to experience the world of politics from our nation’s capitol, and inspire others to get involved legislatively. In addition, the winning college or school of pharmacy will be awarded a total of $2,500 for future advocacy initiatives.
Applications must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2013. Winners will be notified no later than February 15, 2013. All application materials should be mailed to: Attn: Nick Dorich, NACDS RxIMPACT "U" Award, NACDS, 1776 Wilson Blvd, Suite 200, Arlington, VA 22201.
