Last month, the House Education and the Workforce Committee approved H.R. 5003, the “Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act of 2016.” This bill does not meet the needs of children in child care/ afterschool programs for long hours.
The bill does not include language that allows centers and homes the option of serving an additional snack for children in care more than 8 hours per day. Little tummies need multiple little meals during the day to stay full; working families need to know that their children are not only cared for, but fed, and we need to ensure that child care centers have the resources needed to feed children while parents are away at work. ...
