FEATURED ALERTOur New Year's Resolution: Healthy Births, Healthy BabiesHelp Reduce Premature Birth: Urge your Members of Congress to Cosponsor the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act (S.1440/ H.R. 2679) Every year, more than half a million babies are born too soon in the United States. That’s serious cause for concern. This New Year, join us in reducing the rate of premature birth – urge your Members of Congress to support the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act, legislation to expand research, education and intervention activities related to preterm birth and infant mortality. Premature birth costs society more than $26 billion a year and takes a high toll on families. Infants born just a few weeks early are at risk of severe health problems and lifelong disabilities. In 2006, Congress passed the original PREEMIE Act, which developed a public-private agenda aimed at reducing preterm labor and delivery. Since its passage, preterm birth rates have dropped for four consecutive years. The PREEMIE Reauthorization Act builds upon this momentum and will provide new tools and knowledge to improve the lives and health of America’s mothers and children. Join us this New Year to reduce the rate of premature birth – urge your Members of Congress to support the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act today. ...
