  • Stop the Luxury Surcharge in Maryland!

    Legislators in Maryland have introduced H.B. 1345, which would impose a "luxury" surcharge on most retail sales over certain amounts (including jewelry). Contact your Maryland representatives and urge them to oppose H.B. 1345! The luxury surcharge would be 1% on items greater than $5,000 or, where the price exceeds $20,000, $150 plus 2% of the amount in excess of $20,000. This most certainly would have a chilling effect on sales! Contact your state representatives today and urge them to oppose H.B. 1345!

Currently, they aren't required by law in the majority of states to collect state and local sales/use taxes. Contact your representatives today and urge them to support sales tax fairness!

  • LIFO Under Threat

    Jewelers of America urges you to strongly oppose a repeal of the last-in, first-out (LIFO) inventory accounting method, which President Obama proposed in his budget again this year, and remains an attractive revenue-raising option to policymakers in both the Administration and Congress. This repeal would deal a potentially fatal blow to companies in the jewelry industry that use LIFO. Contact your representatives today and urge them to oppose LIFO repeal!
