Private Remedy for Consumer Fraud

Bill Summary:
A "private remedy for consumer fraud" would benefit Iowans who are preyed upon by businesses who misrepresent themselves and deceive their customers. The Attorney General's office cannot adequately address complaints from individuals. With a private cause of action, individuals taken advantage of through fraudulent and illegal practices can a) sue the fraudulent business, and b) recover their attorney fees if they win the case.


This bill must pass out of House subcommittee (Reps. Palmer, Swaim and Andersen) to go to full Judiciary committee before being eligible to debate on the floor.
