State Legislation - Iowa
Local Control
Bill #: HF3
Year: 2009

Bill Summary:

Establish real local control over the siting of factory farms. Counties should have the final say on if, and where, factory farms are built in order to: 1.) preserve and protect natural resources, including water sources and fragile environmental locations; 2.) lessen congestion and overcrowding of confined feeding operations, especially near cities; 3.) and to protect the health and welfare of the public.

This bill is currently in a House Agriculture Subcommittee (Reps. Reasoner, Bailey and S. Olson) and needs to pass out of subcommittee and the full House Ag committee in order to be eligible to be debated on the floor.
