Anti-gun ObamaCare: Senate Filibuster
On the Cloture Motion
11/21/2009
Senate Roll Call No. 353
111th Congress, 1st Session

Agreed to: 60-39 (see complete tally)
Anti-gun ObamaCare Health Bill. On November 21, 2009, Senators narrowly killed a filibuster of HR 3590, the Senate version of the ObamaCare legislation. For starters, this bill will most likely -- because of the mandates in the legislation -- result in all of your gun-related health data being dumped into a government database that was created in section 13001 of the stimulus bill. This includes any firearms-related information your doctor has gleaned . . . or any determination of PTSD, or something similar, that can preclude you from owning firearms. Second, the bill will also create special "wellness" programs in section 1001 which would allow the government to offer lower premiums to employers who bribe their employees to live healthier lifestyles -- and nothing within the bill would prohibit rabidly anti-gun HHS Secretary Sebelius from decreeing that "no guns" is somehow healthier. Sixty votes were needed on the "motion to proceed" in order to overcome the filibuster, and unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was able to exactly garner the 60 votes he needed. A vote against the "motion to proceed" is considered a pro-gun vote and is rated as a "+".
