As a constituent and member of the American Gastroenterological Association, I am writing to express my support for H.R. 3961, the Medicare Physicians Payment Reform Act, legislation that repeals the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula and prevents the 21.5 percent cut from being implemented in January 2010.  Physicians would be given a statutory update for two years based on the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) and then would transition to a new payment system.  I encourage you to support this legislation.  
This critical legislation will eliminate the fundamentally flawed Medicare physician payment formula and help Congress transition physicians into a more stable and equitable payment system.  The AGA and all of organized medicine have long advocated for reforming the SGR system so that viable delivery and system reform can occur.  Enacting H.R. 3961 is a critical step in moving physicians into a new payment system.
I urge you to support H.R. 3961 and thank you for considering my views on this critical health care issue.
