Did you know that 2 million women are living with obstetric fistula in low-income countries because they lack access to basic healthcare? Well you can do something to change this!
This month Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Rep. Michael Castle (R-DE) introduced a
bill which would provide funding to prevent and treat women suffering from obstetric fistula, a debilitating condition affecting millions of women. Beyond the physical trauma, women often face isolation and abandonment in their homes and communities. Obstetric fistula is preventable and can be treated with a low-cost surgery, but our own government has yet to set aside appropriate funding to enable greater access to adequate healthcare.
