As a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, I thank you for your support this past year for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As Congress returns for the “lame duck” session this month, I respectfully request that you support a funding level of $34.1 billion ($2 billion increase) for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in a final, fiscal year (FY) 2017 appropriations bill. This funding level, approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this year, includes $216 million for the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Additionally, I call upon you to support alternative funding streams for targeted, multi-year initiatives such as the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative by voting for a 21st Century Cures Act that includes crucial, supplemental funding for the NIH, NCI and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). ...
