Yesterday New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio issued an order commanding all people who reside or work within 4 zip codes (11205, 11206, 11211 and 11249) in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn who have not received a measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine or who cannot demonstrate serological immunity must be injected with the MMR vaccine within 48 hours or face a potential fine of $1000.
A lawsuit challenging the decision is under preparation. Anyone who resides or works within the area subject to the order may be a plaintiff in the suit which seeks an immediate repeal of the order. Please contact John Gilmore at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be a plaintiff.
The Mayor's order follows upon a ruling last Friday by a New York Supreme Court Judge that vacated an Emergency Declaration by Ed Day, the Rockland County Executive, that banned unvaccinated minors from schools and public places in the County.
